New Stroke Units to be set up this year

A total of 9 new Stroke units and 12 Heart failure units are to be established this year, the HSE has pledged. Programme implementation aims to provide rapid access for patients, shorten length of stay and prevent strokes. The average length of stay should be reduced by 2 days over 3 years and admissions of patients with stroke to nursing homes should be reduced by 1.5% nationally.
